Vintage Versace-Style Gold Medusa Starburst Button - 1.5" Double Shank, c. 1970s

A rare vintage designer button in the unmistakable Versace style, measuring 1 1/2" across with a richly detailed gold-tone Medusa starburst head, delicate filigree work, and a Greek key border around the perimeter. The photos show some glare and shadow, but in person the finish is a deep, luxurious gold.

What makes this piece especially unusual is the double shank on the reverse, believed to be a prototype construction. It sews on beautifully as a statement closure on a blazer or coat, and would also make a striking brooch or pin with a simple conversion.

From the Lauber Novelty Button Company archive: Morris Susslar founded the Harlem-Adler Button Company in the 1940s and later Lauber in the 1950s, sourcing high-end buttons worldwide until the family closed the business in 2005.
