Antique Grenfell Hooked Rug "Mallards in Flight" — Labrador Industries, ca. 1890-1930

A remarkable survivor of North Atlantic folk art history: an antique Grenfell Labrador Industries hooked rug depicting mallards taking flight across a snowy landscape. Made in Labrador and Newfoundland circa 1890-1930, these mats were hand-hooked from recycled fabric by local women as part of Sir Wilfred Grenfell's mission to support coastal fishing families.

Measuring approximately 50 x 40 inches, the piece has been mounted and backed on a wood frame and arrives ready to hang as wall art. The wildlife scene is rendered in the tight, painterly hooking style Grenfell mats are prized for, with soft winter tones and strong graphic composition.
