Vintage Mexican Papel Picado Paper Banner - 10 Flags, Day of the Dead / Jaripeo

A wonderful vintage Mexican papel picado banner with 10 pre-strung tissue paper flags, each hand-cut with intricate designs including figures, skeletons, florals, and delicate lattice work. This is genuine cut paper, not a modern plastic reproduction, and the colors run through lilac, rose-pink, soft pink, yellow, red, blue, light lime green, orange, and two whites.

Each panel measures roughly 13 x 17 inches, and banners like this were traditionally strung out to around 20 feet. Because the tissue is fragile, it has not been fully stretched out for photographs. Condition is very nice with only minor creases from storage - it spent over 20 years pressed flat between two foam core boards in a climate-controlled, smoke-free home.

Hang it whole for Day of the Dead, a jaripeo, or a fiesta-themed celebration, or cut and frame the individual panels as folk art. A charming, genuinely handmade piece of Mexican paper craft that is getting harder to find in this condition.
