Vintage Handmade Indian Velvet Patchwork Quilt / Blanket 88" x 70.5"

A truly special find: a handmade velvet patchwork quilt brought back from India in early 1990 and carefully kept ever since. Measuring roughly 88" x 70.5", the top is a rich mosaic of hand-stitched velvet patches in burgundy, gold, rust, sage, slate blue, cream and olive, all hand-quilted with the small irregularities that only come from genuine handwork.

The face of the quilt is mint and has never been used. The reverse shows one small stain, most likely original to its making, and one back corner still carries a "SAMPLE" customs stamp that was never removed because it simply couldn't be seen in use. Stored for over 30 years in a blanket sleeve in a smoke-free, climate-controlled home.

Equally at home draped over a bed, folded on a sofa, or hung as a textile wall piece, this was the only velvet quilt in a large private collection of quilts and textiles from around the world.
