Vintage Hand-Carved Indian Shank Buttons 1/2" - Lot of 8 (Late 1970s)

A lot of eight vintage hand-carved shank buttons from India, each measuring 1/2 inch across. The cream-to-ivory surfaces are carved from a natural nut and incised with a warm brown cross-hatch and star motif, giving every button its own subtle variation. They date to the late 1970s and were purchased directly from the original manufacturer.

These come from the legendary Lauber Novelty Button Company stock of New York's garment center, founded by Morris Sussal and later run by his sons until the business closed in 2005. Everything in this collection was manufactured before 1985, with much of it dating to the 1960s and 70s.

Unused vintage deadstock in excellent condition. A favorite with sewists and home crafters who repurpose them into pendants, bracelets and earrings. The same design is offered in two other sizes and in a lot of 10; combined shipping is available. Quantities are limited and will not be restocked.
