Vintage Apothecary Pharmacy Jar with Glass Stopper - "HYDR: OX: RUB:" Original Label
A genuine piece of pharmacy history: this vintage glass apothecary jar retains its original faceted glass stopper and striking reverse-painted front label reading "HYDR: OX: RUB:" (Hydrargyri Oxidum Rubrum) in gold, red, black and white banding. A YCC insignia is impressed on the base.
An old paper label on the underside identifies the chemist who once used it - James Carruthers, Ph.C., M.P.S., Pharmaceutical Chemist, High Street, Dunfermline - noting the jar later held shampoo. Condition is excellent for its age, with some age dirt and light interior residue shown in the photos; we're glad to gently wash it before shipping on request.
A wonderful display piece for a bathroom shelf, bar cart, curiosity cabinet or collector of antique chemist glass. Please review all photos and ask questions before purchasing - no refunds on vintage jars.
