Antique Apothecary Jar with Stopper - "Sodii Bicarb" Recessed Gold & Red Label
A genuine antique pharmacy apothecary jar with its original hand-blown glass stopper. The recessed front label reads "SODII BICARB:" in vivid gold and red lettering, a hallmark of British chemist shop glass. It stands approximately 6 3/4" tall with a 2 3/8" base diameter.
Believed to trace back to Davidson & Kay of Aberdeen, Scotland (founded c.1834), with the glass most likely produced by Beatson, Clark & Co around 1930. The jar saw real use behind a pharmacy counter and has been well cared for ever since. It currently holds dried sodium bicarbonate, which will be removed and the interior washed before shipping.
Please note a crack on the underside of the stopper, likely from the hand-blowing process; it does not pass through the glass and cannot be felt. A handsome display piece for collectors of pharmacy, medical, and antique glass.
