1938 Japanese Woodblock Print with Gold, Signed Harada Gyoho - Floral Design, Matted
An original Japanese woodblock print, hand-printed in Japan in 1938 and signed Harada Gyoho. The tall, narrow composition features a bold floral and foliate motif in blue, green, red and cream, set against a luminous gold ground and outlined in strong black line work.
The print measures roughly 11 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches and hangs vertically, presented in a cream mat and ready for the frame of your choice. There is a bit of dirt on the mat liner beneath the mat and a small tear in the mat itself, both of which will be hidden once framed — the print itself displays beautifully.
Harada Kokyo (also read Gyoha or Gyoho, 1863–1925) was a nihonga painter and print designer who studied under Ogata Gekko, known for dynamic woodblock prints and lithographs as well as elegant studies of nature and everyday life. From a climate-controlled, smoke-free collection and carefully packed for safe arrival.
