This is the first of many blogs, all unrelated I am posting on DDD. As a collector, I wanted to share my thoughts. Life is about discovery, enjoying the things that bring us joy, and sharing our interests.
Have you ever been invited to a friend's, an acquaintance's, or a relative's house for the first time, or asked a new friend to your home? What we decorate our homes with, inside and out, reveals much about who we are. Our gardens, types of shrubbery, and lawn furniture identify our love for nature. An invite into someone's home is more than just an invite. It is sharing an intimate part of who you are. There is no confusion whether a person is a minimalist or a hoarder, a keeper of stuff. Historians, travelers, and sentimentalists surround themselves with items they feel close to. Memories are treasures we keep and continue to add to. Fireplaces raise a home's temperature, but pictures of family and friends bring smiles and true warmth. And yes, there is a fine line between overdecorating and chaos, and sterility and emptiness. This site is not meant for minimalists or downsizers unless they are ready to sell their collections.
There is a special group of people that I divide into two categories, although there is crossover. Collectors are people who enjoy collecting items for personal and investment purposes. They surround themselves with things that bring them happiness. Note: not all investments pan out successfully. Hoarders are collectors, but to an extreme. That does not make them good or bad, but their boundaries are different. LOL-some have no boundaries at all.
I am attracted to people who have a passion for collecting, no matter what they collect. While some may be eccentric, boring, or nerdy, most are knowledgeable and have much to share with the right audience. I admit to starting collections I learned about, studied, and wanted to know more about. Should we lose interest, the internet offers many resources to help us locate collectors for our treasures. The most important aspects of collecting are the years of enjoyment and the stories shared.
